about

Born and raised in Japan NOZOMI NOBODY started learning to play the piano when she was four, and created her signature angelic singing style soon after. Capitalizing on her voice, NOZOMI NOBODY often layers her vocals using a loop pedal, which led to her composing, arranging, and performing all the instruments on her debut album, We Are Always a Bit Lonely (2016), and her follow-up album, Everything Goes Back To You (2017). In 2018, NOZOMI NOBODY released two singles, Hotaru (Fireflies), and Seikatsu (Living), accompanied on the piano by NY-based composer, Hidetake Takayama.

“NOZOMI NOBODY is like if DAR WILLIAMS, SIA, and ADELE somehow spawned a daughter together! Love!”

“Her voice and melodies are as seductive and alluring as a comfy couch and thick warm blanket on a cold rainy day.

NOZOMI NOBODY, a Tokyo-based singer/songwriter debuted her first album “We Are Always A Bit Lonely” back in 2016, and the underground Tokyo music scene took notice. Her minimalist approach to composition, coupled with her delicate but determined voice hypnotize as she lulls her fans with the most soulful of melodies. Stand-out songs like, October, The Silent World, Tonight, and Tokyo Lullaby evoke a cinematic montage of memory to all things once loved and then lost. In contrast, tracks like White Days, and Someday are decidedly sunny, while sharing the overall depth NOZOMI NOBODY has instantly become known for.

“Just download and put on repeat. You’ll feel nostalgic, and safe, and happy, and well, very satisfied”

Riding her initial success, NOZOMI NOBODY released her sophomore album, “Everything Goes Back To You” in 2017 expanding her creative range while doubling down on melodically addictive compositions. Listen to Do You Know? for example, and it’s impossible not to sing along to the second half of the song. The track, Spring is on the Way, will swiftly transport you to a wonderfully different world, while In a Silent Room, will confront your mortality on such a peaceful plane it’s sublime. Other tracks like December Wind, and Judee, will have you swaying, or bouncing, or rocking gleefully along with their infectious tempo and lyrical hooks.

“NOZOMI NOBODY is the audio version of a mysterious and mesmerizing universe.”

Spirited away to a small church in the bohemian neighborhood of Shimokitazawa in Western Tokyo, NOZOMI NOBODY recorded her 2018 singles, Hotaru (“Fireflies”), and Seikatsu (“Living”) with NY-based composer, Hidetake Takayama accompanying on piano. From the first notes of the piano keys on Hotaru, you can feel the intense austerity and importance of this track for NOZOMI NOBODY. Sung in her native Japanese, Hotaru is an emotionally explosive auditory Rembrandt, crafting love, yearning, solitude, and pain seamlessly together. Following Hotaru, NOZOMI NOBODY released Seikatsu, arguably her most personal and intimate track to date. Both introspective and exposed, raw vocals are more than enough to carry this ballad for over a minute before Takayama’s piano gracefully reassures Seikatsu is a gorgeous duet. Timeless and soul-crushingly sorrowful, this track deserves your full attention, and will not disappoint.
